As many of us do, I like to go through and pick out a favorite from each person. I use a combination of photographic elements, fitting the theme, and possibly most important just how the photo hits me.

@npdemers, I really like Kirkjufell and Mont Saint-Michel (both are on my "must see" list) but I think my favorite is the one of the British Columbia mountains. I'm prone to pulling off to the side of the road when I see something photogenic, and the water and snow capped mountains in the distance really appeal to me.

@slpollett. it's hard to pick a favorite from your entries. I really like both Angels Landing and Mount Edgecomb. Both have nice leading lines, and the juxtaposition of the town and the obviously volcanic Mount Edgecomb is great. But in the end I think the stream in the Zion NP photo gives a refreshing feel to the scene. I want to walk around the curve in the stream to see more of that view.

@grandmaR, you have three very different entries. San Lorenzo Island is interesting because the entirety of the mountains are implied rather than shown, but the V where they intersect adds interest. I think my favorite, though, is El Moro Light. The water and sky are great, but the star of the shot to me is the cliff... so much texture there.

@shawnc, you entered three great shots. I'm having a hard time picking a favorite one. The shot of Wall Street in Arches NP is very cool, and NO arches to be seen :). The Grand Canyon shot is also wonderful. You really did hit the magic moment for that light. But I think the most unusual one (to me anyway) is the ancient sand dunes and shoreline.

@sapphire73, I like all three of your entries. The Yosemite shot is beautiful (from around Washburn Point, I think) and I think the moody skies in the Three Sisters shot is great (maybe that sky explains how green everything is). Maroon Bells is great also, and that area was already on my list. Picking a favorite is tough... But I think I'll go with Maroon Bells. The layered peaks and varied shades of foliage really make me want to make reservations now.

@sarasphotos, I want to ski that run! Or at least I would like to have skied it when I had two good knees. And your Dolomites and Alps entries are both lovely. It's a tough decision, but I think I like the detail in the mountain in the Dolomites just a little more.

@Cavalier, I really like the Half Dome photo. It looks like a different perspective than I've seen before. I'm going to have to hunt around using Peak Visor to see if I can figure out where it was taken. The autumn colors really do add a nice touch to the lovely BC mountain. I really like the way the snow defines the angled "swooping" lines. But I think my favorite is June Lake Loop. those are definitely some craggy peaks, and the lake and cloud give a little extra dimension.

So now comes the hard part. You guys really did up the difficulty for me. I'm really trying to not resort to the dart method of selection.

HMs (in no particular order) are:
@sarasphotos - In the middle of the Dolomites, La Villa/Stern, Italy

@Cavalier - June Lake loop

And the finalists:
3rd Place: @grandmaR - El Moro light

2nd Place: @slpollett - View of Angel's Landing at Zion National Park

1st Place: @shawnc - Ancient Sand Dunes and shoreline at White Pocket, Utah

The leading lines, the contrasting colors, and the craggy, if not too imposing peaks all add up to first place.

The next challenge is yours, Shawn. I'm looking forward to it.
