Darktable 5.0.0 is now out!

  • Over 500 cameras received custom styles, bringing the default development stack closer to the out-of-camera JPG, if one wishes. The 'plain darktable way' is still available.
  • A splash screen provides visual feedback during startup, including a progress indicator that people with large libraries will appreciate.
  • A progress bar has been added for bulk image operations.
  • Fine-tuning of drawn masks has become easier (two Bézier handles are available per control point).
  • In the 'export' module, selecting a style now shows a preview of the effects of that style.
  • Various updated tooltips and user hints on the user interface.
  • Speaking of the GUI, it has become even more flexible: it is now possible to hide or show individual utility modules, and to move them between the left and right sidebars. The sidebars themselves can be completely swapped in the darkroom.
  • The 'color equalizer' module can now make use of the GPU for accelerated processing (via OpenCL). Its visualisation has also been improved.
  • Bulk image operations are now significantly faster.
  • Loading of PFM files (a floating-point file format for HDR images).
  • On new installations, the waveform display is shown by default instead of the histogram (which is still available, of course, along with 'rgb parade' and vectorscope).
  • Improvements to AVIF and JPEG XL output.
  • Extended color-checker presets in the 'color look-up table' module.
  • Improved/extended HEIF input support with AVC (H.264) and JPEG 2000 compression types.
  • Various performance enhancements.
  • Newly supported cameras:

    • Fujifilm: X-M5 (compressed), X-T50 (compressed)
    • Leica: D-Lux 8 (DNG), M11-D (DNG), Q3 43 (DNG)
    • Minolta: Alpha Sweet Digital, Alpha-7 Digital
    • Nikon: Z50_2 (14bit-compressed), Z6_3 (14bit-compressed)
    • Panasonic: DC-FZ80D (4:3), DC-FZ82D (4:3), DC-FZ85 (4:3), DC-FZ85D (4:3), DC-G100D (4:3)
    • Phase One P20+
    • Sony ILCE-1M2
  • Improved camera support:

    • White balance presets for Nikon Z6_3, Sony ILCE-6700
    • Noise profiles for Canon PowerShot G1 X, Leica M11 and Nikon Z6_3
  • Support is missing for:

    • Apple ProRAW DNGs
    • CinemaDNG lossless (Blackmagic, some DJI, etc.) and lossy (Blackmagic)
    • DNG 1.7 using JPEG XL (Adobe enhanced, Samsung Expert RAW)
    • Fujifilm lossy RAFs
    • Nikon high-efficiency NEFs
    • OM System 14-bit high resolution ORFs
    • Sony downsized lossless ARWs ("M" for full-frame, "S" for full-frame & APS-C)
  • Due to missing samples, camera support has been suspended for the following cameras. Users are encouraged to provide samples so that support can be reinstated:

    • Creo/Leaf Aptus 22(LF3779)/Hasselblad H1
    • Fujifilm IS-1
