Bib tracking for sporting events

I am not sure if this is the right forum for this.... so sorry in advance if it is not.

I shoot sports, mainly BMX racing, but also skiing and triathlon. The athletes in these sports wear numbered bibs, or have number plates on the front/side of their bikes. Does Smug Mug have a way to track these numbers or is there another program out there that does and can somehow be integrated into Smug Mug so that the athletes can find themselves without having to sift through thousands of images? I would prefer a local program that could tag the images and if SM could somehow read those tags. Ideally, I could upload into galleries (like I currently do) and somehow have a search box that people can put their race numbers into and it would find and display them.

I found one online resource that can do it, but it requires me to upload gigs of photos and possibly use them for hosting instead of SM. Plus, while I post 2000-3000 images per event, I take a lot more. I would want to be able to locate others on my end that have not been posted should the need ever arise.

I read somewhere that Photo Mechanic may do this, but when I go to their website, I cannot find any mention on their website that the program can do this.
