*the* lens list... and redundancy
I can't help wondering if some of these lenses would be a bit redundant... but some of them are fantastic lenses and you get that 'lens lust' factor lol.....
which would you eliminate if any for just that reason (redundant zoom range) :dunno
fyi Im leaving a few specialty lenses and primes off the list like the 100 macro etc...
10-22
17-40 L
24-70 L
*or
24-105 L IS
70-200 f/2.8L IS
100-400 L
300 f/2.8L IS
1.4x
2.0x
maybe a 500 as well...
I guess the two in question are the 17-40 and the 100-400.
the 17-40 because the 10-22 and 24-70 pretty much cover that zoom range... and the 100-400 is on there as a wildlife walkaround lens... like for zoo's and whatnot... but then maybe the 70-200 with a tc would be just as good?
thoughts?

Are you inviting everyone from Dgrin? I hope you have an open bar
Back to your question, I have redundancy in lenses in case I have to send one in for service.
Here is my core:
20mm, 50mm, 100mm macro, 28-70L, 70-200L, (soon a 400mm)
I also have a CZ 28, CZ 50, Canon 50/1.8 mk1, 85/1.8, 80-200, and 70-210 just in case. i go through lens swaps a lot and might get rid of a few and buy others.
I think Canon does a great job with the 24/28-70 and 70-200 and believe everyone should have them and build around them. A 1.4x TC will give you 280/4 and then whatever you need for wide angle would be a nice kit. If you have any low light issues a 50/1.4, 85, or 135 will add to your kit nicely

I could use a 70-200 f/2.8 L IS if you have an extra one lying around. Maybe a 1Ds mkII body to go with it. Just search under your couch cushions, I'm sure you've got some camera gear you've forgotten about.

Andy
After reading this thread I immediately proposed to my secretary and she agreed!
Your generous gift to Dani prompted my proposal.
So you have also had a part in my future marriage......
(this is just one example of the desperate measures undertaken by a certified lens s**t)
(looking forward to your wedding photos)

Lose the 17-40 and pick the 24-105 over the 24-70. Lose the 100-400 and get a 1.4x TC for the 300/2.8. That gets your long range and the 70-200/2.8 IS covers your mid tele range.

Canon 20D | 10-22 | 17-85 IS | 50/1.4 | 70-300 IS | 100/2.8 macro
Sony F717 | Hoya R72
Drop the "maybe 500" and get a "for sure 400 5.6" and a Tam 1.4x TC. That pair is as good as two long lenses and much cheaper.

I second Tristan and David's suggestions Great minds and all that....
Dang, that Andy must be feeling extremely guilty. Like he wrote, when it comes to lenses and ribs, he's serious and pretty possessive (visualize a pitbull with a bone :uhoh ) .... I'd inspect the 10-22 for any rib sauce stains before you get too excited :lol I've checked, and Canon's warranty expressly prohibits the use of rib sauce as a zoom lube....
Now was this your lens list, or are you going to share with AJ?
Steve
this is my list... since AJ has the nikon... I know he wants a 80-400VR, a good wide angle and a macro... but dunno the specifics. He's more than welcome to borrow the canon or the sony any time he wants though thumb
