I didn't like that in the beginning either, but you get used to it as your management hits become less in relation to your visitor hits.
When you manage your site you also cause download bandwith and therefore it goes in your stats.
If this wouldn't count for example some people would just give their login data to friends and family so they could browse their pictures without affecting the download bandwith. This wouldn't be fair to other users who upgrade in order to get more bandwith.
This is just one example that pops to my head that smugmug would have to take care of to keep things in order.

Thanks Sebastian. I don't think alot of people would hand out their full rights login to cheat the bandwidth system, do you? I've never even been neer the roof of mine. Smugmug could just put in the TOS that you're the only one allowed to use your login.

I don't and I also have no shortage in bandwith either.
Another possible misuse pops to my mind - the owners themselves could use this unlimited bandwith of theirs to download a massive amount of their own pictures for whatever reasons. They could be lazy and instead of carrying their pictures on a cd they just log on to their account and download whatever they need directly from smugmug. If it doesn't cost or counts towards a limit - people tend to do this more often and get even lazier, because they got it all on smugmug. Over the months this could cause a lot of traffic depening on the behaviour of the user.

I better shut up now - today I seem to only see the bad side in people or myself. ne_nau.gif:D

rolleyes1.gif I've read alot of your posts so I know you're not that way! thumb.gif

The reasons you mention make sense but I just don't see them as strong enough to keep the stats counting the accountholder's own hits. However if it has to be this way, the statcounter could ignore whatever traffic coming from my IP.
