just wondering what exactly they achieved, do they actually change the way the camera focuses or do they just help you out some....:dunno

if so, what are some optional focus screens for the 10D instead of the standard.

thanks.

they do not help the camera focus, they just help you focus, should you be inclined to think that your eye can do a better job through that dark as crap 10d pentaprism. I've seen lots of them, but never really pursued it. ne_nau.gif

I have one on my Canon AV-1. Those things are great, alot easier and more precise focussing. I would love one of those on the usually very small dark digital cameras. Makes it alot easier, i can focus without wearing my glasses that way too.

There are no OEM interchangeable focusing screens for the 10D or any other Canon APS DSLRs. There are a few aftermarket focusing screens on the WEB. I don't have the links before me right now, but they have been discussed here and on other forums. Canon does make interchangeable focusing screens for their Pro 1 Series DSLRs. They are removed via the opening in the lens mount from beneath the pentprism. One more thing you can do to introduce dust and debris into the viewfinderrolleyes1.gif

These focusing screens have Fresnel prisms or split-image rangefinders, that were routinely found in the viewfinders of manual focusing SLRS 25 years ago.

They will help YOU focus manually a lot easier than the plain groundglass seen in a 10D or my 20D.

But for AF, they are not needed, and have been left out of most consumer grade cameras, along with large, bright pentaprism viewfinders..

Look through on OM-4 or a Nikon F2, or an EOS 1DsMkll sometime and compare it to the APS sensor DSLRs. You will see a difference. But unless you are using a manual focusing lens they are not necessary. When you use a split-image rangefinder on the 1DsMkll, you will lose the Evaluative Metering mode.
