View Over Braehus From An Old Ruin

Hello friends!
I was just glancing through some pictures from last summer and stumbled across this one. I snapped it last summer when taking a coffieebreak on my drive from Stockholm (where I live) to my parents in law down in Småland, ca 550 km south of Stockholm. My family was already there, so I drove alone. I've been driving by many times before, but never had the chanse to stop. When my family is with me, there is never "time" to stop anywhere - not on places where my spouse suspects that I want to take some pictures anyway! :D So I took full advantage of my solo trip and stoped where ever I wanted to! :thumb When I came to the ruin I couldn't believe my eyes - the view was absolutely breathtaking. The most beautiful view I've ever seen - in Sweden atleast. Oh, how I want to go back there sometime solely to take pictures. Imagine a sunset..... WOW! But I guess that woun't happen until the kids are grown! After all, it's located ca 300-350 km away from home. Well well! I guess Braehus is still there about 15 years from now....... :wink

Regards / Matty

I completely agree, it almost looks like I'm looking at something digitally done, but I know it's not. Amazing shot.

Matty, the natural framing of that shot (and the town below) is just spectacular. Isn't going solo a refreshing break now and then?

Did you bracket the shot and stack it in layers or did you bring back the shadows with the S/H tool?

Really really nice piece of heaven there...
    Matty,

What a beautiful spot - it's amazing! I think it would be worth driving the 350K just to get a good sunset/sunrise photo...heck, I'm even contemplating flying there from the US just to see that little gem of a view. I remember Luben Solev once posting this great series of pics he took when he decided to drive a couple of hours south just to photograph (if I remember correctly) the Dover Cliffs in the UK - and came away with breathtaking photos.

Wow Matty that is breathtaking. Wonderful colors, beautiful clouds. I especially like the reflection of the clouds on the water and the framing of the rocks. My only nit pick is that some of the clouds are a bit blown but there is so much great going on in the photo that it hardly matters.

Elving, you're starting to annoy me with your splendid photography! Everything you post is so good! thumb.gif

That green fairly jumps out of the screen at me. And what a lovely contrast between your elevated, rocky framing and the quilt of farmland and flat expanse of water beyond. The dappled sunlight is such good, dramatic lighting.

Nice stuff, thank you for sharing your work.

Thank you, David! Yes, I'd say VERY refreshing! I love takin' these solo trips. Happens only 1-2 times a year, so they are treasures.

I did bracket and stack! thumb.gif I find that the best way when possible.

    Thanx Kevin!

If you fly there, I promise you I'll throw myself into the car and meet you up there! thumb.gif:): *Haha* If it wasn't for being a family father, I would do trips like that all the time. *Dreaming away* Well, the boys will grow up, one day it's possible I guess! rolleyes1.gif

Thank you! Yepp, you're right! There are some blown out clouds. But if there's something in the pic that is allowed to be a little blowned out, then it's the bright white clouds, don't ya say! thumb.gif

I got lucky big time, when I got there, there was this "smorgasboard" of lovely views and the weather was perfect!

I've been meaning to comment on this image. Really beautiful. I have a memory of scenes like this from trips to Scotland and Iceland. Very beautiful.

I can't tell on my laptop screen, but it may be that the brightest highlights of the clouds could be improved with a little application of PS shadow/highlight. See: http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/1077611
