    I guess the first one, to me, just made it seem to go toward a vanishing point.... maybe this one is more to liking?

    Did you exposure bracket? I think maybe one exposure for the bank/trees and another for the sky may have looked a little better. The trees seem to lose detail as is and I can't tell if it is from mist/fog or from overexposure. I think the first shot was straighter, but I always have problems telling what is "straight" in a shot like this.
