Spent the week on Catalina Island for a bit of diving and time off. While eating lunch at the airport these humminbirds kept us entertained.

Well done, Steve. Nice series of captures. That bird looks a bit ...green. Hope that's not FUNGUS inside your 500mm. :D

These hummingbird pictures are superb. I have looked at our EXIF info, which shall help me. My hummingbird pics suffer from noise and perspective. Furthermore, my picture is static and yours display activity. Excellent job. Incidentally, did you use a noise-removal tool? If so, would you share with me which program you did use? Thank you.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Great shots Steve (as usual). Looks like you ended up taking the beast down with you afterall. Suppose these were handheld?ne_nau.gif Can we expect more pix from the trip (get any whales, dolphins...), or was all your time spent underwater??
    Kevin.
ps- I may be a little late for work tomorrow afternoon - I feel a headache coming on. I think, though, it should be gone after the Seahawk's victoy. Thanx for covering for me, buddy.

Thanks for you comments Gil. I didn't need any noise removal on these, the sun was cooperating that day and I had good lighting. When I do remove noise I use photoshop only and remove the noise using separate channels or with masks. More info on your other post on this.

Yep I took the beast with me, though I'm not sure I'll take it again unless I plan on doing primarily photo. That lens is a pain to carry around for any distance. I may have to get that 400 5.6 before you get one rolleyes1.gif

Oh, I think you better start taking some advil now before that headache hits full force at kick off. :lol4

Thank you Mike and I'm sure you'll be glad to know that my lens is in perfect shape, no Fungus anywhere. :D

    Very nice job Steve thumb.gifthumb.gif

Like the others, I like the 3rd one too rolleyes1.gif I am pretty tired of hummers at the feeder shots, so seeing a flower in the pic is a nice change of pace. Not to mention how much more natural it makes the scene look.

    Anyhow, very nice clap.gif

Thank you Steve, I so agree that natural shots are generally much more pleasing to look at.

    Picture frames
    Good morning, Steve.

The frames for your bird pictures add to the professional aura; they are superbly crafted. Having the common and Latin names beneath each bird picture is a nice touch. Did you create the frames yourself or have them done by a graphics art pro? If you did them yourself, perhaps you could share with us what program you used.

Thanks for you comments on the frames Gil :D. I make those up in Photoshop and wrote a brief how to in this thread http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=24682 I will try and write up a more detailed tutorial today with screen shots. Will hopefully have it up by the end of the day.

    Thanks again,

I like #3 also - very nice. Great bokeh!!:):

A great combination - I used the same lens combo on many of the shots I posted yesterday. I can only imagine the challenge of trying to follow humnmers with it though. It might be funny just to watch your contortions with it trying to keep the hummer in the viewfinder. I find it hard to follow hummers with 300mm lenses.

    Thanks for Sharing
Thanks, Steve, for the information, which I shall explore. I am seriously thinking about springing for a telephoto, either 300mm or 400mm, and have already begun the process by buying my wife a nice outfit for Valentine's Day. mwink.gif I, like you, enjoy shooting birds. Thanks, again, for the response. I appreciate it.

Thanks Ben. I was able to check out the restoration project. They have an injured eagle in an enclosed area. I took pictures of it, but I just don't like showing pictures of critters behind fences/glass etc. Just my personal feelings, nothing against those that do like those images.

And the diving was awesome. I love the Kelp forests! Thanks for asking :D:):
