so i just figured out we *my family* are going to Yellowstone for our family vacation this summer, just wondering what lenses you guys think i should pick up for this occasion... keep in mind that i'll be getting a 20D here in about 2-3 months or so:wink so i could use an EF-S lense

should i pick up a WA or a telephoto for this trip? not so big into wildlife, but its always fun

thanks,

Daniel

My thought is something fairly wide for landscapes, say 28mm or even wider (because of your 10D crop) and something very big for wildlife at least 200mm (because this becomes 320mm on your 10D I think) I have shot some birds and stuff with my 200mm and I wish I was closer, but maybe 200mm plus a TC?
    Cameras: >(2) Canon 20D .Canon 20D/grip >Canon S200 (p&s)
    Glass: >Sigma 17-35mm,f2.8-4 DG >Tamron 28-75mm,f2.8 >Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro >Canon 70-200mm,f2.8L IS >Canon 200mm,f2.8L
    Flash: >550EX >Sigma EF-500 DG Super >studio strobes

asuming i have a 20D body by then which would you recommend for a wide
the Tokina 12-24 f/4 or the Canon 10-22ne_nau.gif

for a zoom i'm hoping to pick up a Sigma 70-200 2.8 here soon, and i'll be getting a TC for that tabootmwink.gif

Me, I'd stick with Canon, and I'd get the 10-22.

I have a Sigma 12-24 and I'm not happy with it - lots of CA. So I say stick with the Canon brand. We've seen many fine shots from the 10-22. Second choice, if you're on a budget, would be the 17-40.

nod.gif but that would only get me 27mm and some barrel distortion.:D

i'll probably be picking that lense up sometime in the future for a mid-zoom,

    what i'm lookin for a hardcore wide-angle.iloveyou.gif
and the Tokina and Canon are the best 2 candidates for that

thanks for the feedback thus far guys, keep it coming, i have much to learn:baldy

    Howdy Daniel
    Howdy Daniel,

If you haven't ever been you are in for a treat, there is anything and everything to shoot. We went this last September and I can't wait to go back. To use a "Golf Saying" you'll need every club in your bag. There is so much diversity and so many things to see and shoot. You'll need the widest and the longest and all things in betweenmwink.gif .

Also, make sure and practice up on your pano technique it's one of the premier pano places.
    Take care,

    Craig

Get that 10-22. I got great shots with a 16-35 on a 1DmkII. You'll also love something long for wildlife.
    If not now, when?

Oh, here are a few other things you'll want. Comfortable hiking books and bag.

And here is a book I just read which will help whet your appetite:
