NYC area, Canon Tele lens swap for a week?

This is a long-shot (no pun intended). Is there anyone who owns a Canon 70-300 DO who would be willing to trade it for my 100-400L for a week in March?

Here's the scoop. We're heading to the Dominican Republic for a week at a Club Med resort. I'm planning on bringing my 20D, and really want to bring a telephoto as well. But the big white 100-400L might be a target for theft. I'm thinking the DO would be much more discreet. Any takers?

Thanks,
-joel

However, I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. ne_nau.gif

Thanks for the bump, though. mwink.gif

I live in Jersey City, and I will trade you my Canon EF 35-135mm, for one week. I guarantee you the 35-135 is far less likely to be stolen than the 100-400L.

I am uncomfortable with giving you my exact address though (you could be anybody!), so I tell you what- I will meet you in front of City Hall, trade you for the 100-400L, then meet you exactly one week later. Or better yet, just leave the lens in a brown paper bag marked "For Lefty" in front of the drugstore on motgomery and Grove.

Ok, will do! thumb.gif(and thanks for the bump)

But seriously, I think I've pretty much decided just to bring the 100-400L. Sure, I'd rather have a DO for this trip. In fact, the wife was actually encouraging me to buy one for the trip -- until she realized that it costs almost as much as the 100-400L.

I decided I'm not going to let fear of losing my equipment rule my life. I checked with my insurance agent, and I'm covered for $5,000 on my camera gear.

The one precaution I did take was to order myself a Crumpler camera bag, so I don't walk around looking like a model for the B&H catalog.

    Cheers,

Is it possible to get insurance against theft for your camera on a per trip basis? How do you do this?

Sorry, I don't know. I was prepared to research this myself until I discovered that I was already covered.

Are you covered by homeowner's insurance? I have my gear listed on my policy, but I think that only applies if someone robs me, or my house burns down. Does it apply in the field?

It does in most policies from what I've seen; but you really should read the fine print, or ask your agent to be sure. My agent wasn't sure if the policy covered international travel and had to check. In my case the answer was yes, but policies vary. Better to check and be sure. Also, check your limits. Mine was $5K, which is just enough for me. But many policies have lower limits than that.
