what is the point of single image class?

Am I missing something here?
With the latest smugmug release, we now have the nifty lightBox feature (I like it a lot). So I am left asking what is now the purpose of the singleImage class (small, medium, large)? Shouldn't these be replaced by just the lightBox viewing mode? With all these different photo viewing levels, it starts to get a bit absurd.
Example:
My gallery is in "all thumbs" style with preferred size set to small.
When I click on a thumbnail, it displays singleImage Small
When I click on the photo again, it displays singleImage Medium
When I click on the photo again, it displays singleImage Large
When I click on the photo again, it displays lightBox Original
Shouldn't clicking on the thumbnail take me directly to lightBox viewing where I can pick my preferred size? That would be a lot simpler/cleaner - no?
Similar complexity exists for journal and traditional styles.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for the post. We're digesting it.
PS: Sorry I missed this yesterday.

One point is, that one of our original intents of LB was that it would set off an image on the page, particularly with SmugMug style, and Traditional, etc. Which it does nicely - we didn't expect that folks would use it for primary surfing though galleries... it's most interesting, because we're learning a lot about how folks use it.
SingleImage mode is popular with viewers, too, for touring through a gallery. Some folks will go to a gallery link this way:
http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/634937/1/25324462/Large
and then use the nav link to go next, next, etc...
Thanks again for the great thought and comments - we really appreciate it.
