go with the 10-22 from what i see on your list youve got everything for standard shooting. besiddes, you can always re-sell after the trip and buy a 70-200 if you find it fits your current needs better.
a good sturdy tripod and head. for me, i would lay off the monopod until after you get a good tripod.
i always find myself wishing i had a nice tripod to sturdy those elusive shots.

• hiking tripod?
• backup device (2GB won't be enough!)
• long lens for those compressed scenic shots of the horizon
• backpack
• a way to carry water and munchies
• a way to get dust off your glass and sensor
• ziplock plastic bags to protect from water or blowing dust
• a good hat that won't blow off in the wind
• sunscreen and towelettes to wipe the sunscreen off your fingers so it won't eat away at the plastic and markings on your equipment
• sensible hiking shoes
• sunglasses
• possibly a walkie talkie (there was some discussion alaong those lines)
• pen & paper to document shots if needed
• cash for all the good food Andy will be insisting we eat

hold anything of any significant weight. Go with this one and you'll be
fine. If you really must have a head, this one's tilt/swivel should be all you
need.
If you want something for landscapes, a tripod will be much better. If you
use the search feature, you'll find a variety of threads discussing tripods.
Your lens selection. Hmm. I would like to have something like the 70-200 or
maybe the 70-300 and then something wide. Some say the 24-70 is soft. I
happen to like it. The 10-22 would be a nice selection. Bottom line, is you
will probably want at least two.
As for filters, my suggestion on the ND's is to use a square filter that fits the
77mm lens (think Cokin "P") and then use a step-up ring to get you to 77mm
from 55mm.

I am bringing at least 6 lenses to cover 20mm-400mm + TC's. I'm sure others are bringing many lenses so at worst case you can borrow glass but borrowing the basic kit is going to be impossible. I'm not sure how many are bringing 2 tripods for instance.

I currently have a lowerpro computrekker backpack that has done me well on my recent trips to hawaii and other places. Im going to pick up some extra batteries but are generic really ok? Dont they lack protection circuits? I'll look into tripods here shortly but I may stick with the monopod that ian408 mentioned.
Keep the suggestions coming.
