Sandhill shouting match

Just getting into bird pics. The cranes and geese that winter here are fattening up. But that neck is about 4 times normal - part of his doiminance display. And I know the background leaves something to be desired.

Lord help me - a sharp, fast lens is moving up fast on my wish list. This is one I got this morning using a low-cost zoom on my new D200.

I've not seen the neck fluffed up like that, but sand hills are a hoot to watch aren't they?
