I must admit that I love the olympics. Being a former athlete, I get overwhelmed at how countries can come together to compete. Not to win, cause 80% wont get a medal, but to compete a high level for the love of the game.

So I have been watching the opening ceremonies. The ceremonies are marred by the Italians playing 80's music throughout the entire event. I am part Italian and I can't stand 80's music and I am sure most of the world can't stand 80's music so what is Italy thinking?

I would rather see last olympics country put together a soccer team to play against the italians and at the end, the winners get to run the torch in and we can be done. Maybe Bobsled were 2 teams go at once on a track that criss crosses. The team that wins gets to bring the flag in. I would watch that for 3 hours.

What does the rest of the grinnin community think?

Sure was quiet in here while the opening ceremonies were on. eek7.gif

They're really into that flying thing. Still can't beat the summer opening flying bit two years ago. Now that was just plain nutty cool.

Anyone else think that the Italian model (forget her name) looks like Liv Tyler just with bloder hair? And I sure hope that clam shell she was dancing around in was as heated as the stadium seats!

I should say that much of the big shin dig was amazing, the good parts anyway. And I don't know what they were skating and skiing on. Teflon? Looked like one big air hocky surface.

I wasn't watching too intently through the assembly of the athletes, with the sound down on my enormous 2-inch Casio LCD TV next to me in my office, but all I kept hearing from downstairs from Mrs. D_S85 was "No.... Oh, no! {pause} Not another one. {pause} No! Noooooooo!"

I had no idea what was going on, so I walked downstairs and asked... "Hey, what's going on?" And she turned the sound up. 80's disco music? Blech and double blech!

Then some more. And more. And it went on like that.

WTH? Is that crap "in" over there still? What in the world? The land that music time forgot.

Then Yoko Ono stepped up. Oh boy. I thought I was having a nightmare. I did what any sane person would do. I left.

Oh, I did see the last 5 minutes with the cauldrin(sp?) lighting. I think that went well, as the previous 9 Olympics lighting process was more drawn out than the Oscars. Expedience has its virtues.

I wonder if Harry B. watched the net crawlers forming the big bird?

Too bad they couldn't get Regis Philbin to narrate the thing.
