Well worth a look with some of the most memorable shots ever seen. (Also some shocking stuff, not for the easily upset)..

History
"The photo of a motor-cross competitor taking a tumble ,1955" through to today.

The winners gallery 2006 For the 2005 competition

The winners over the last 50 years

I wondered about trying to comment on any of the shots from over the years or to pick a possible best of best. I was unable to find words or decide any that could be described as better than another.

I think 1967 and 1994 are really good.

It's hard to judge the others in an unbiased fashion, as photgraphs such as 1972 have such a disproportionate impact due to their iconic status. Then again, they are icons because they are good.

    Hi Bodwick
Thanks for sharing the links. There are some really powerful photos there. The mood captured grows ever dimmer over the years, don't you think?Almost to the point of wondering "where is the hope".........

Some really powerful, and really disturbing captures of the human condition.

This one stood out for me, in terms of composition, color, mood:

"Georges Merillon, France, Gamma, Nogovac, Kosovo, Yugoslavia, 28 January 1990"

Almost a painting. Composition and color are just awesome (not to mention what's actually happening).
I can't grasp the notion of time.

When I hear the earth will melt into the sun,
    in two billion years,
    all I can think is:
"Will that be on a Monday?"

    Hi Ann & all,

Reading the comments from or regarding the photographers attached to each pic, some dream of taking another shot with the same impact others hate their shot and wont talk about the circumstances surrounding the taking of it. Some scary stuff.
