I'm in L.A. for work until tomorrow. I went down to Huntington Beach this morning and snapped a few photos. This kid was going out for a surf...

And this guy was under the pier playing one of those Aussie instruments :):

I asked him if it was ok to take his photo...of course he said yes.

nice pics- its a didgeridoo, instrument from northern and central australia, made from branches that are hollowed out by termites and finished off with coals to further widen the opening-its played by circular breathing-that is inhaling trough the noise whilst simultaneously blowing through the mouth-its as hard as it sounds!

That first is in great light. Were you able to get any of the surf?

Thanks. I didn't get any pictures of the boy, but I found this guy later on and got this picture. It would have been nice to have more than a 70mm lens with me today.

I don't agree. It bothers me; makes me feel uncomfortable when I see a picture that's too tightly cropped. I much prefer an image that shows the subject in context with it's environment and I like this picture AS IS. The diagonal angle that the wave crest creates and the placement of the surfer make a wonderfully (for me) balanced composition. Even though there is a lot of motion suggested it still feels solid and securely balanced.

    Good picture.

I was more curious about the conditions. It's cool to see HB surf. Usually
some head high waves there during winter.
