Thinking towards Challenge 59, a week away, I'd like to bring a few ideas forward as theme prospects.

Which of these do you think would be fun? Please vote and be heard (or... read).

Rough
not smooth,
uneven,
stormy,
disorderly,
harsh or coarse,
lacking comforts or conveniences,
not polished or finished,
crude,
approximate,
difficult,
a part of a golf course,
a rough time,
to treat roughly

Smooth
having an even surface with no roughness,
even or gentile in movement,
free from interruptions,
obstacles,
pleasing to the taste - bland,
having an easy, flowing rhythm or sound,
polished or ingratiating in a sincere way,
to make level or even,
to free from difficulties,
polish or refine,
in a smooth manner

Quiet
still,
motionless,
hushed,
not noisy,
not speaking; silent,
not easily excited,
not showy,
not forward; unobtrusive,
peaceful and relaxing,
calm,
stillness

    Not always. But often.

This is getting good! Everybody please state your case for one theme idea vs. another. Plus your reasons why it would be better. Frankly, I couldn't decide, so I thought it better to put the power of the poll feature to use.

Me too. Seems like a challenge to capture something that is quiet.

i like quiet.... you would get quite an array of images... some of people, some of places, some of things, some of (lack-of) things.thumb.gif just so many possibilities with that one.

I feel Quiet is too much like the Peace challenge we had at Xmas, at least in terms of Time distance

I was torn between Quiet and Rough. I've always liked photographing textures, and how the light plays on them, which lead me to either smooth or rough. But frankly, most smooth textures, in my mind at least, make for boring images. On the other hand, quiet is hard to capture... and I've only one idea of what I'd do for it, which I suspect I don't hold alone... so we'd end up with a number of people going for the same concept... which could be interesting. Rough on the other hand I can come up with a dozen or so ideas. In the end, I went with the one I had more ideas for, and picked "rough".ne_nau.gif

oh, and I too iloveyou.gif it when we get to vote on the subject first.

Why not all 3 at once?

Makes for more of a challenging photo.

    I voted "rough"
I think "rough" provides more options for bright vs dark, highlights vs shadows, etc. I can envision a lot of entries would be Ansel Adams' b/w style:-).:):

"Smooth" and "quiet" are very similar, many things come to mind that would work for both. I like "rough" as a theme.
