Fire!!!

Spent a tough 16 hours in the field trying to stop this grass fire. Started by a hot exhaust on a 4WD that was stopped in the long grass and ended up burning about 400 hectares of land.

The culprit...A Nissan Patrol 4WD

Lots of smoke from this fire. Note the trees for an idea on how big the smoke column is.

Fires also allow for cool silhouette photos :):

    those are ALL excellent,
so it's dry out there, huh? What a shame. Since I've been volunteering and got my new camera, we haven't had brush fires like this. Not that I wish for fires, however they do make good subjects for photography! Thanks for sharing!

All great catches mate. We get the best sunsets when there have been fires about.

Love the last one, really gives you an aftermath feeling, especially with the lonely tree still standing.

    Thanks everyone thumb.gif

No it wasn't my car. I was driving a red one with flashing lights and hoses.

Tessa, Good on you for volunteering thumb.gif. One thing I have learnt is to always have a small bag packed and have it near the door. Make sure the camera (I take my old digital just to be safe) and some munchies are in the bag too. I have missed some incredible opportunities because I was in a rush and forgot the camera :cry

Absolutely great shots. thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif I loved everyone of them. Too bad it took a fire to get them. The same thing happened here in the US when they first started putting catalytic converters on cars without proper insulation and shielding.
