Barbet log

A couple of weeks back I put up a log from a palm tree in a tree fairly close to the house. I made a starter hole in the log and within a week a pair of Crested Barbets started working on it.

A couple of shots of the male:

On Sunday, a male Blackcollared Barbet also showed some interest:

Sorry they not as sharp as they should be, but the birds were more interested in working on the log than posing. The first two were taken on a monopod, in the late afternoon. The third was taken on a (wobbly) tripod, with a remote, from the stair landing in the house - very overcast conditions.

15524779-Ti.gif. Those are spiffy looking birds. You also did very well capturing them in difficult lighting.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks guys. I hope that I get some decent light on the log before the hole gets too deep. Had great light yesterday afternoon, but the birds took the afternoon off :cry.

Thanks Ed. I see from my "Birds of North America" that you guys don't seem to have barbets.

Thanks Gus. I tried to find a call on the web yesterday, but had no luck. Did you find any? I'll make a recording and put it on my website.
