So I says I'm doing some bidness in SF, and I sez I want to take some piccies of the GG bridge.

DavidTO, who's a really funny guy - really - posts this.

Well David, here's a hearty "screw you"!

And yes, I know there's some schmutz on it, I don't have Photoshop on this laptop.

Yowzers, Sid, that shot is so "just right" that it is painful. A wall hanger 4 sure.

edit: a little niggle. Something in the upper right hand corner. Tiny cloud? Dust?

Thanks guys. TO is in hiding, no doubt. naughty.gif

Yeah, I think that's junk on my sensor, gotta clean it when I get home. It was windy up there, I changed lenses a few times, stuff may have blown in.

    Sure, happy to.

It was a dark and stormy night when... well, actually it was a beautiful sunny day. I got the usual 'golden light' shot. But I knew from past experience that if you wait long enough and do a long enough exposure, you can squeeze unlikely colors from the sky. In particular, you can get a deep blue color that I love. Plus you get traffic trails. And it smooths out the water.

So I waited until after the sun had gone below the horizon behind me. There was still a little bit of light in the sky, but the bridge lights and city lights were now becoming visible. That's the moment when I try to get some long exposures.

This one was 20 seconds, ISO L (below 100, not sure that number they assign to L), f7.1. I was delighted I could get such long exposures without a ND filter.

I definitely had to fiddle with curves a bit. I have Canon's Digital Photography Pro on this laptop. So I gave it a general curves twist. Plus I messed with the red curve so that it didn't bloom. And with the blue curve so that the water and the sky had a nice hue. Plus a saturation boost.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Here's the 'golden light' shot. As you can see, it's not nearly as interesting.

15524779-Ti.gif This one is seems so boring when compared to the masterful capture at the top of this thread. And this "golden light" photo is not bad. The other one is just soooo much better.thumb.gif

Good Shot. Just because something is cliche, does that mean you shouldn't shoot it? If that was true, wedding photographers would all be on welfare:D.

I've seen a lot of GGB shots. This one is one of my favorites. Just don't frame it and add a cheesy quote about some sort of virtue. that would be going too far.

I'm glad to see you have found the spot you wanted. And hey, there is no shame in taking a beautiful picture, even if somebody else have already used the same spot before you.thumb.gif

Nice shot Sid thumb.gifthumb.gif I agree the "golden light" shot doesn't do much for me either. The night shot is so much more viewable clap.gif

As Mike wrote, this is a mandatory shot if you visit the City. You didn't happen to run across any old rib bones Andy might have left scattered around the Headlands, did you? lol3.gif

lol3.gif No bones, but some mighty fine eating. I had a wonderous lamb shank and fava bean puree today at an Italian garlic factory called The Stinking Rose, in North Beach. *burp* Just a couple of blocks north of here.

Ah, my dinner with Ian... was excellent! Two first class meals in one day - that's a rarity. A terrific Middle Eastern restaurant where everything was good, even the eggplant.

And no, that's not a reference to Ian, my most excellent host. naughty.gif

OK, so I'm too lazy and disinterested to find out the name of this place or who worships here. Let's just say it's the Italian Cathedral because it's in North Beach right by the really good restaurants.
