I'm a Happy Guy - just got another bookcover

I just received word this morning that one of my photos was picked for the cover of a book being reprinted by the Great Smoky Mountain Association entitled Historic Bulidings of the Smokies. Everything in the book is remaining the same, but is being reissued with a new cover.

Another plug for Smugmug. I had visited with the association's media director and even left a photo that he expressed an interest in. However, they went to my Smugmug site and picked the photo they are going to use from one of my GSMNP Smugmug galleries. It pays to get your work out in front of the public.

Comments welcome.

Click on the image for EXIF data.

Here's the photo they picked for the cover.

Lovely image, Dixie. Congratulations. Did you have to do much correction for barrel distortion?

I've been out visiting kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids for the weekend so just now able to get back to respond.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to comment. I will answer the individual questions separately below. Thanks again for the congratulations and comments.

I made the DVD as a promotional item to help showcase my work in the Smokies. I gave them one when I saw them last Monday (2/13) when I show the GSM Association my portfolio. It must have helped because I was contacted on Friday (2/17) telling me that I got the cover for the current project which is a reprint of a book on the historic buildings of the Smoky Mountains.

From their comments on both the DVD and my Smugmug galleries it sounds as if I will be doing more with the association in the future. ...and that's the best news for me.

George, it is the Carter Shields Cabin in Cades Cove taken the fall of 2004. The Shields Cabin is the last cabin before exiting the Cades Cove loop and just a short distance before the Sparks Lane cutover back to the front side of the loop.

Sid, no barrel correction at all. I used graduated ND filters to keep from blowing out the sky and to to get some cloud detail. Since it was so overcast, I did punch the colors a little in PS to bring them out. This photo was actually taken with one of Canon's cheaper lens, the EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. It doesn't have the best of reviews, but I've been lucky with mine and gotten some great shots with it before I picked up the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L and started using it as my workhorse lens.

For those who don't know Cades Cove is located in the southwestern corner of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The entrance for visiting Cades Cove is via Townsend, TN.

Have you tried going out to Cheaha State Park or Double Springs (Sipsey Wilderness)?
