Florida is not the only place for birds, you know :D some birds I have discovered ( not quite, but new to me :) apart from the sandhill cranes in NM -
( the Ids are from a bird book I'm matching pics with, so I may well be wrong )

the Western meadowlark - it hangs around on wires, the roadside..

the white-crowned sparrow ( i'm not sure nothing specific to NM, but ..

the roadrunner - not a good pic, but it really runs pretty fast !

the Killdeer ( ?! not sure at all ) or the little ringed plover ( both look the same to me in the bird book )

and then I did manage to see my first red-tail hawk up close , tho his wings is fully in shadow :(

I wholeheatedly agree Vandana. I reluctantly cancelled my plans to shoot Bosque this spring to attend Harry's shoot.

New Mexico is great for birds - I have been there three times since 2004.

Road runners can be quite common, and quite inquisitive. I captured this little guy with a 10D back in spring 2004.

I got this shot of its famous snow geese on the same trip.

thanks a lot Path, Jeff for the comments ! I hope to go to Bosque next weekend again - I heard the sandhills might be leaving north soon, hope not already :(

Jeff - you may be right - yes, I saw it fly but couldn't get a pic ( i was too excited at the idea of a hawk rolleyes1.gif ) and you're right , I don't remember a red tail specifically , so ..

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Very nice set Thusie! thumb.gif The Sparrow and the Hawk Nice and sharp, all are well composed, nice even perspective. Would prefer to see a natural perch on the first two, but not always easy to get.

I believe the Kildeer is the only Plover to have 2 rings around the neck.

Speaking of Bosque. Maybe it's time us Westies plan a Bird outing on this side of the country. Anyone up for a trip to Bosque next Fall/Winter?

thanks for sharing these. I like the meadowlark pic the best. I like the simple backround and the background colors work well with the bird colors. I like the wire as well. Composition is very good. Nice shot.

thanks a lot Steve, but you got that name wrong mwink.gif you probably came here after a hefty squirrel dose from Thusie rolleyes1.gif
Bosque - yeah, it will nice for the alternative non-Floridan bird outing !! I think the best time is from Nov-Feb when the sandhills swarm the place. I believe there is a 'festival of the cranes' sometime in Nov - tho i'm sure that time is very crowded..I don't know too much about it , been there once but can find out more.
