South Carolina Wildlife Exposition
Charleston, SC
F 11, 1600 ISO, 200mm, 1/1000 EV +1

Bird ID??? Yes, it is an exposition, a show, but
that bird was flying free and went into a tree.
It is from the Birds Of Prey Rehab here

Golden eagle perhaps, Ginger?? The white tail with the dark terminal band suggests that it is a juvenile golden eagle.

Thanks, Steve, Harry, PF, Thusie, Jeff. I just come home and couldn't resist working that one up. But I did not run it through any noise programs, don't plan to do anything with it except show you all. I wanted to eat something, then.

I could run it through though. I was really concerned about catching these birds at some of the speeds at which they were flying, so I raised the ISO to 1600. There were two birds out there then, so I raised the F stop to 11, well, it was a snowball, and the birds were in the air.

As it was, I missed some flight shots from the really fast birds. Words are failing me right now, tired. I really did need that shutter speed. Notice that the EV was at +1, and I NEVER do that, but those were dark birds against a light sky.

just checking stuff before I upload a few things and log off.

Oh, that couldn't have been an eagle. I don't think unless they were hidden til the last minute. They only had one weird looking eagle there and there were two of these. I planned on going tomorrow, too, but it is cold out now, will see. But if I do go, I will try to get a grip on the kind of birds. They had two of those birds that people hunt with in England or used to, in the Romance novels. Cool things, and I just can't remember what they are called. Fast, very fast!! (Falcons, I remembered, am just exhausted.)

One man said that he thought there would be a Bald Eagle there tomorrow, that is one reason I planned on going, but then the weather turned on me......just don't know.

Definitely a Golden Eagle. I've tried Noise Ninja and settled for Neat Image Pro. Pretty happy with the way it works out.
    Cheers!

Have any of you ever seen a Harris Hawk? I was just going through my photos and it looks like there are two perches for Harris Hawks.

Also, a problem for figuring this stuff out is the woman was saying that this one is from Africa, that one is from............, and I know she mentioned Texas.

I did ask her what she meant when she said "from". I couldn't hear/understand her answer. So I don't know ........... something about that is where one would see them??? But they are here, I don't know if they were sent here, I don't know what she said.

I looked in my Peterson Guide right now, a Harris Hawk does not look that different, but ............ ??? Maybe it is a Golden Eagle, which was in the book, too. But like the eagle which I will post tomorrow isn't even in the book. ONe thing, the Harris Hawk is found in Texas, and I know she mentioned Texas.

ginger (OH, and that is a big crop, too. That would make it grainy on top of the high ISO. There were two people from FM with me, they said they didn't even get any of the BIF, and I got a couple of others, more than a couple, but a couple where I won't have to crop like that, etc.) I couldn't actually see the bird in the tree, but I knew it was there, so I shot it, I remember that. Just in case, I was kind of excited that I got it.

A Harris hawk? That was one I thought of but tail feathers (Sibley) aren't right, body color is. Looks to corse (heavy body) to me for a Harris, been up close and personal to one of them, cool birds:):

Bet you had a fun time!

    Harris Hawk! A definite!

Went back yesterday. Yes, that is an unusual "look" on that bird, especially the tail feathers, but it is a Harris Hawk!! They flew no Golden Eagles.

Just reporting back. The light was very harsh yesterday, had lots of problems with it, but did get shots. I feel like I just returned from Harry's or something. So many photos, so little time.

But it is a Harris Hawk. They, the BIG birds of prey place here IDd it. The place that flew it!

I think I will post in bits and pieces.
