New Bug

Hi there.......gosh I haven't posted any pictures for a while :dunno
This week one of my fellow co-workers brought me in a new bug to photograph :clap heyyy!!!
Just what I needed, something to photograph :clap

I only keep my bugs for 2 days before I release them, if I have not achieved the pictures I wanted, too bad for me the bug goes free ....

I still do not know what this bug is, its really big, about 2 and a half inches long, it's body is as fat as my finger, and it had one huge set of choppers that frightened me every time he displayed them to me.

Anyone know what it is ???

This image is not cropped in any way, Canon 20D, with Canon 100mm Macro and one Kenko Extention tube, Canon 580 Flash with diffuser, and a lamp.
Set up in a cardboard box on the kitchen bench :D

Yep I had a good day :thumb Enjoy.......... Skippy (Australia)

Ohhhhh he made me jump a few times too, he was so aggressive.
I like to release them as soon as possible, it's not natural for them to be inside the house.........so either the shots work or don't the bug goes free.

I don't think it's a grasshopper, its nothing like I have ever seen before, and a very strong critter it was too, I pushed him along with the blunt end of a probe and the grabbed it with his jaws and I could feel the pressure he was applying........ amazing Bug indeed.....now if only I could find more rolleyes1.gif

Oh he was pretty good about sitting there, only one time I had to catch him and put him back inside the bug catcher container he was way to frisky.

This is when I decided to go down the yard and break a small branch off the fruit tree and sit him on it and stand it up in a small vase.

He just sat there, and was quite happy :D lucky for me rolleyes1.gif

    plague locust?
great shot skippy-without a full body shot its hard to identify-my first thought was that it is a plague locust

however i didn't think they had gotten below bendigo-it would be interesting to know where it was found-it may have hitched a ride on something.
