I recently moved to Reno (August 2005) and have been away on business for many months , but i am now going to be in the area for a while. Last weekend we tried for the third time to reach Dry Pond Lake, which is at about 7,000 ft.

6,939 to be precise.

We hiked up from 6,500 feet, it took approx 1.5 hours in the heavy snow. There were some good views on the way up of the Reno/Washoe valley.

WE finally made it to the top, a little tired but worth the trip.

Now just to go all the way back down again.........

Round trip about 3 hours with a 30 min rest at the top.

Good to be posting again.

Nice captures Pete. You may also want to try some of the trails up in the Desolation Wilderness and the trails in the Woods Lake area on Hwy 88? south of Gardnerville. Lots of beautiful trails in this area.

This time i walked from 6,300 ft to 7,000 ft . The gradient is about 80 degrees so the walk takes about 1.5 hours one way ( up )in the snow, we have to take about 6 or 7 angled walks across the side of the mountain, it is impossible to go straight up. The good news is it is only 40 mins back down, walking up at this altitude is great exercise.

You can walk from 5,000 ft, this would take about 2.5 hours
    .

    Thanks for the question
