we had some major Santa Ana winds blowin (hard!) a while back and a family across the street has a flag pole and lights up the flag at night. I thought it would be fun to see what I could get. This was w/ my Canon 20D and 100-400 at 400 mm on AE (F/5.6), 1/15 shutter, 1600 ISO and -2 EV. Did a bit of PP to lighten it up, but I really liked the way it turned out.

C&C welcome

I agree, that looks nice, Colleen. If the Santa Anas continue, maybe you can try shooting it just after the sun goes below the horizon, but while there's still light in the sky? It's my favorite sky color - with a little tweaking you can make it a gorgeous blue.

    thanks Gubbs and Sid.

It was an "almost" hand held. I semi-balanced it on the block wall in our back yard (no tripod - what looks like camera shake is actually the wind blowing the flag pole!).

The winds will be back, they're a common feature this time of year. So, yeah, I'll see what I can get near twilight. Tx for the idea.

Nice picthumb.gif The flag almost looks like it was painted in.

I remember those Santa anna winds blowing me over on the way to school when I was younger. We had to hide behind a brick wall while we waited for the school bus.

    Blowin' in the wind
    Hi Froggy!

Yes, our lovely Santa Anas! A guy could fly a bowling ball on a chain in that weather!
