Musician's Portrait
[FONT=Geneva, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Hey guys,
Finally got around to doing the post on some of this stuff, and thought I'd share my favourite piece. This is a young jazz/classical bassist pursuing his studies in Toronto. Setting was impromptu, but I think the result doesn't bespeak that. C&C welcome, of course. (Proud sidenote: He's also my brother :thumb)

It's DANIELB :uhoh
Just kidding, I like this one a lot. Very well done.
The best part for me is how you were able to capture his 'attitude' (I mean that in a postitive way...). He comes across as a very serious student of the bass!
good work....
Take care and good light,
Mongrel
As a fellow bassist, I really feel his love for the double here.
I love how his hand mimics the head of the instrument, whether intentional or not.
Keep an eye on nose room though ^_^ I keep it as one of my little subconscious checks when posing people. It's key.
Regardless, another stunning headshot.
Man, we're like the dynamic duo of downtown doronto... wait a second... Damn alliteration!

Try this method: Mask the backdrop, for this pic, I recon the "Magic Wand" set to tolerance around 15-20 would do just fine. Then COPY (not CUT) the selection to a new layer. In the layer palette, hold down Ctrl and left-click on the "background copy"-layer icon, activating the "ants". (making it selected) Then do the softening. When you are done, deselect and erease with a soft brush around the edges where details that wasn't supposed to be blurred got blurred, oftenly hair and subtle stuff like that.
Something like that.
