Right. CNAME is for www.yourdomain.com at SmugMug. Anything else is A-record And that's what I meant at godaddy and joker

We can't stop folks from using an A-record, so we try to warn that our IP address may change.

I am going to be working on rewriting the help. Although using an A record is not optimal due to needing to change the IP address in the future, in most cases it is the ONLY way to have a domain and not need to type in the www.

I will work on explaining this a bit better.

GoDaddy and a bunch of the others REQUIRE an A record. There is no way around it. :-) We do not change the IP that often so it should not be that big of a deal.
