oy vey. this is redickerous! i just got a new 80x lexar 2gb. well, that'll do me for a while.
hard to keep up with all the advances
I just got 2 Lexar 1gb 40x cards. These last model "slow" cards are still much faster than I ever need. It's going to be hard to keep up with all the new product releases this week.

Just be glad lenses have been pretty stable. :-D
I just hope the camera biz doesn't go the route that the computer biz went through the last 15 years. That being, rapid change. Too hard to keep up. I just bought an Ultra-II 2G because I wanted the space and speed for my (hopefully) eventual 20D purchase. 617 large-fine JPGs on my Rebel, wow! But at 8M in RAW+JPG that number will be much smaller.
Now the Extreme III's at 20MB per second? What's the fastest writing camera available at the moment? Anything over 5MB/s yet?

Looking at the CF chart on Rob Galbraith, the Nikon D1H can write to CF ~5.1MB/sec. The Canon 1D Mark II can write to SD cards at just over 7MB/sec and CF cards ~3.8MB/sec. My D70 does well with ~4.5MB/sec. These seem to be some of the fastest out right now. I'd like to see the stats for the new 20D. I'm sure they are pretty fast too.
I'll go for an 8GB Ultra II, instead of spending a wad on a 2GB Extreme III. I don't really care how fast the card transfers to the computer.
buy.com once again has the Sandisk 2G Ultra-II on sale. This time $186. Was $161 two weeks ago, then up over $300, now under $190 again. Wild price swings!
SanDisk Ultra II
I got that SanDisk Ultra II-2GB CF card at $160 from Buy.com. Thanks for the tip. They shipped it Fedex overnight and got it here before I left for San Francisco last Thursday. Great service, they packed and shipped the same day I placed my order. I did all my shooting in RAW while I was away and had plenty of memory. I forgot, several times, to reset the date in the camera after changing batteries. I have to recharge the batteries every night if I use the camera all day. So, I bought a 30 minute charger and a spare set of batteries as soon as I got back home. I should be all set now.
