Here are some of my thoughts for this particular challenge. Mostly I've been thinking in terms of texture.

    Personally I prefer the first version of Bark, much more atmospheric. the second seems to have too much of a yellow & blue cast, but it could just be the monitor I'm viewing on at the moment

    I like the first Bark photo as well. My suggestion: crop in a little tigher and increase contrast to bring out the roughness.
