Extremely rare northern egret....

feeling a bit left out of egretfest 2006, I am reporting a sighting of the extremely rare Great Northern Egret just off Long Island Sound and about thirty feet up in a tree...taken yesterday....

Now I admit he's not as handsome as some of his Florida cousins, but just look at those tailfeathers!

Sometimes it pays to look up (as long as you're not *directly* underneath...)

    That's a fine capture and excellent handling of exposure in difficult lighting. Since Egret Fest is a time if joy I will give you a pass on your ID. :D

    I'm no bird-man, but this looks more like some sort of vulture.

    ID aside, this is a great exposure 15524779-Ti.gif- very difficult light.

    hmmm, if that's an egret, then i flushed out a whole bunch of them in the woods yesterday. up here in the snowy northern climes we call them, um.....turkeys Laughing.gifOL
