Hey everybody. Took the kids and myself to the Auto Show today in Salt Lake City to check it out and stopped by the Great Salt Lake marina on the way home to walk on the beach and take some pics. Fun Factoid:--->The Great Salt Lake is the 2nd most salty body of water in the world. (The Dead Sea is the first). Anyhow, here's some shots of that little stop. C&C definately welcome. Enjoy.

Fine shots and I'm gonna move you on over to field and street where I think you will get a few more responses.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Nice shots..I've never been there. Doesn't look like the easiest place to shoot. I like the last shot. You caught the light on those sails. :):

Good shots. That can't be a real palm tree! I know better! I like the Saltair shot. And I like the third and fourth shots - the almost monochrome ones. thumb.gif

I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself.

I like the first and last shots very much, although, perhaps No.1 could be a little better with a crop of the sky?

Thanks you guys/gal. Unfortunately it was a bit smoggy that day, you can see Antelope Island floating in the background there in a couple of those. I apreciate the good words. And, no the palm tree wasn't real, it's only about 4 feet tall and plastic I think. Someone's attempt at humor, because NOTHING grows on the beaches of the Great Salt Lake! rolleyes1.gif

    What's that building in #2?
    It looks almost Russian/Bavarian.

    Spagbag,
The building is called Saltair. I'm not sure what the design is after, but I believe it is the second, or third actual building. The First one sank if you can believe that. A number of years ago, when the water level was up, it used to be a museum/family rec center/waterpark, etc. You could go swimming in the Salt Lake and they had showers there for you afterwards. It's a neat place, though now it's somewhat run down. They held concerts inside it up until a couple of years ago, and there was a gift shop left running inside, but now it's all closed up and gated.

The first Saltair, was built a bit northeast of this one and it was built so far out in the lake that they built it on stilts. That's about as much as I know about it. Down the road is the Marina state park, lots of sailboats as you can see in the photos. and not far from this is black rock, which I think you can also see in the photos. Black Rock forms a sort of bay, which was used in the late 1800's and the early 1900's for barges hauling ore from the north end of the lake, across the lake to unload into wagons and take their ore to different smelters in the Tooele valley (my home). It is said that one of the greatest barges that was used back then caught fire, burned and sank in the bay. Here is a site with some history of the lake for those who are interested. http://geology.utah.gov/online/PI-39/pi39pg10.htm. Thanks for looking!

They are very pleasing pictures both in composition and color/brightness aspects. There is no exif information and wondered what camera and lens you shot these with? I've been by Ogden Utah a few times and saw similar scenes but these shots are quite nice!
    Cheers!

Thank you very much Vern, I apreciate your comments. I did forget to post the exif info for these, and rather than put the whole mess of them here, I thought I'd do this: http://secondhand.smugmug.com/. The photo's in this thread are in my "Landscapes" gallery, you are most welcome to flip through them and check out the exif if you like. I've been up Ogden way a few times, though not with my camera yet (it's a Canon 20D) I'd like to get up Provo canyon and take some shots, maybe when the snow finally melts.
