IE7 Internet Explorer version 7

I know, IE7 is still in beta and no way should Smugmug be expected to support it. Yet. But we should do our best to see if this is a problem in their code or "ours" before IE7 becomes more widely used. IMHO.
Anyway, here's a thread to point out 'oddities' that we find.
for starters:
Start at any gallery on my site, http://miltonsports.smugmug.com/gallery/1236516 for example. Click on the current image, this is what I get with IE7
Possible bug: Note that there are two scroll bars on the right.
Note too that the rest of the page isn't semi-transparent, as it is with FireFox.

i had IE7 b2 preview for a while. what a turd.
they've implemented some welcome fixes, but they've broken too much stuff to make it usable at this point in time. example: background-position. no matter what you set it to, it always positions in the bottom right. worthless. and where is ftp support? gone as well.
i would wait until the official beta 2 release to even try to start cataloging potential IE7 bugs.
I have a function that branches our code in several spots due to IE bugs (no one noticed that the "filter" css bug no longer shows up in FF), so it would be easy to add IE7 to the test case and solve most of the bugs you see.
can you branch my theme so i dont have to put all my IE hacks in?
Seriously, enough is enough.

You used ImageShack? Isn't that, like, illegal in this forum?
Seriously, I wanted to post a note about IE7 and our support of it.
First of all, I'm a huge Firefox fan. But I'm a MUCH bigger fan of competition. I could kiss the entire Firefox team for making Microsoft wake up and smell the competition. Years worth of dormancy are over - the browser wars are upon us again. It's more work for me and Jimmy, but the end-users and consumers win in the end with better browsers. All awesome.
Microsoft was kind enough to give us access to the Vista and IE beta channels months ago, and we've been diligently downloading and testing them out from time to time. We're committed to supporting IE7 when it ships and having the best possible support of it we can. I anticipate having zero or near-zero bugs on SmugMug related to IE7 on launch day.
They're doing lots (not enough, imho, but I'll take lots over nothing anyday) of improvements and fixes with CSS, and transparent PNGs will finally work as well. Those two things alone are huge wins for us.
To sum up: We're thrilled about IE7 and will support it as fully as we're able.
I only use it for screen capture-type forum postings. Real photos are stored either on SM (if they fit, contnet-wise) or the F'r site :
For what it's worth Eric Meyer just posted this yesterday:
Having moved (at home anyway) almost exclusively to my shiny new PowerBook, that'll be hard for me to do but there it is from one of "the CSS experts."

To sum it up; no changes to the layout EXCEPT to fix bugs
Actually, upon re-re-reading Al Billings' and the other comments, it does give the appearance that they're saying 'no new layout features'... so I guess the question is if you want to start testing against things that are supposed to be in there but may still be buggy.

Vista has been punted to January 2007 and the beta cycle pushed as well.
(by way of explanation, I'm a former Microsoft developer. I left in 2000 when my stock vested, but my wife still works there (bastards keep promoting her every time she threatens to quit) and I'm still decently-connected).
If (and that's a BIG IF) they implement all of the features that I've seen or been clued-into, and IF they work as intended, IE7 is going to be nothing short of spectacular and we'll have some serious benefits when Firefox tries to one-up them. But if I'm being honest, I don't see the whole feature list getting implemented, and I also have my doubts about quality. But that's a personal opinion.

What team did you work on? I know a bunch of people on the MSN IM team and some from the Office for mac team. My bro in law used to work on the auto PC team too.

* the actual downloads are being spread out, so you may have already gotten it or it may not get downloaded to you for a few weeks.

Been using it on my Parallels installation. There are a few things that we need to fix on the site (we're doing that) and there are a bunch of small quirks in our themes in IE7 (we're fixing them)... all should be done soon, we hope!

I'm sure you will iron out any quirks that IE7 may cause, although so far I think that it seems to work fine. The only difference I have spotted is that where IE6 allowed the navigation text ie '< Prev 1 of 270 Next > ' to be centred over the photo IE7 does not seem to allow this.
