I wonder what its like to be the first on the block with a new DSLR with the firmware version of 1.0.0. My guess is painful. You will have to let us know as I always wait for 2-3 releases.

Should be fewer issues since it's a minor upgrade from an existing product (20D)

I saw one at PMA. If you looked at the 1dmkiiN and applied some of the same
features to the 20d, you'd have the 30d. The two that stand out are picture
modes and the larger LCD.
I'd say your date is reasonably good. Within a couple of weeks.
As far a firmware go, I'd say it's going to be pretty solid. Again, it's based on
an existing camera.

Firmware on the 300D was in good shape despite it being a very new model, and as you say the 30D is not a big change. I'm not worried about it.
I still have to drool at my co-worker's D200, but the 30D will fix all but one of my complaints with the 300D so I should be very happy.
The only complaint it doesn't fix is lack of a split prism viewfinder. It's hard as heck to manually focus in low light.
