Well, OK, a Skimmer. Shot with Canon 5D and 500mm f/4L.

Today was a great day - wonderful light - just about an hour or so before sunset.

Very, very nice Andy. ylsuper.gif It was a great afternoon. That light could not have been much better.

I had a skimmer shot that was pretty good too but some unnamed party sabotaged it. :cry

Not bad for a New Yorker. :D

What are these birds skimming for, fish, plankton? Does anybody know?

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Whenever I can afford it, DSLR's the next step for me.

The last SLR I owned was a Yashica FX-1 with a few extra lenses. That was back inthe late 70s while I was stationed in Germany. After learning how to sail in Chiemsee (Southeast Germany), I came back to my post near Frankfurt, got off the train with that 100-lb backpack on (they don't give you much time before shutting the door on you there) and, with the train a half-mile down the tracks, THEN I realized that my camera bag was left on it.

    Boo Hoo! :puke

Very nice, Andy, but I have to ask, why would you use a 5D as opposed to your 1DsMkll for a full frame camera shooting BIFs.

The 1DsMkll focuses much faster and has a higher frame rate, doesn't it?

Or did you sell your 1DSMkll again??:):

Hiya Jim - I sold the 1Ds Mark II back in the fall when I got my 5D. I'm sooo much happier with the 5D. The 1Ds Mark II is a fine box, but the 5D does nearly everything as well for me - and since I need to be mobile, it's a better fit for my needs.

For sure, if I were full-time birding, I'd use the 1Ds Mark II, and probably the 1D Mark IIN for the really fast frame rate. The 5D was a good performer as far as focusing goes - of course, not as good as the 1D Mark II or 1Ds Mark II for these types of subjects.

    Thanks for stopping by!

He's good for the short run but until they start awarding Starbuck franchises in swamps he will never last for the long run. :lol
