Recent horrific upload times - anyone else???

I'm having an awful time uploading the past few weeks but the past two days are horrific. Half the photos don't upload; photos that do upload only half upload (half of the photo shows up grayed out); and it's way way to long. Last night I set it to upload about 80 photos at around 3:30 am then went to bed. Got up this morning and only about 12 uploaded... and only couple of them were succesful. In trying to replace the photos that are grayed out most of the time an error page comes up after 6 minutes saying the page cannot be displayed. These problems happen with all the uploaders I've tried. I used to upload at about 1 to 2 huge pics per minute... what's up. My internet connection time seems fine otherwise. Called my isp yesterday and he said all appeared fine on their end... wondering if others are having problems to and what to do about it?
Thanks,
Cindy

Cindy.
Do not get mad or ungry.
I do not have these kind of problems. Sometimes things do'nt work and it is our own fault.
Stay cool. Everything will be arranged and the SmugMug personnel will help you. I'm sure.
Of course, you have told them...
Hang on ... Rescue will come.
Ouch, sorry you're having troubles Cindy - we're not getting any other complaints like this - if anything, uploading and image processing times have gotten faster of late.
Let's see if we can diagnose your trouble - can you first do a packet loss test from dslreports.com ? Let me know the results...

BTW, internet use can seem perfectly normal and speedy, but there could be other issues causing uploading probs.

I ran the test twice but not sure what the results mean. How can I share or send them to you? Thanks,
Maybe this will work... not sure if you'd need to sign in or not with my account. http://www.dslreports.com/speedresults/3895b9356a8b?r=322

Hmm, I haven't had trouble with uploading in a long time. Since the last issue which was apparently fixed 1 or 2 months ago I hadn't a single file failing.
I don't know how extensive this test was, but 5% loss sounds like a lot when transfering files. If I'm not mistaken even a single lost packet can result in a failed upload.
A few weeks ago I had connection problems with my DSL. It was a faulty device on the companies side. So maybe you can ask your internet service provider to check on your connection.
Maybe someone else got a different idea.
Hope this helps,
Sebastian

Hi Cindy,
I am so sorry you are having problems. Looking at the test results, it sure looks like network hardware in your house is having problems. The line is clear all the way through, but your modem/router/computer is dropping up to 10% of the packets (meaning 1 in 10 of the chunks of data being sent to you is not getting there).
The first thing to try is to turn your computer off, and unplug EVERYTHING to do with your connection. If you have a wireless router, unplug that. If you have a cable modem or DSL modem, unplug that, etc. Wait 10 seconds, plug it all back in and turn it all back on. Wait for it to get online and run the test again... see if you are getting any packet loss on that last stop again.
Good luck!
-Ben
That link will only work with your account, but if *you* follow one of the view links it presentes below you should see a section like this:
That url for your report will help folks figure out what the cause is. In theory, TCP/IP should be able to tollerate a few lost packets, the protocol was designed for this. Some TCP/IP stacks are however known to violate some of the basic protocol rules and as a result will loose connections if even just two packets in a row are lost. (on average a 1 MB file will be transmitted in ~750 packets.) If you are using a windows computer, you can be especially susecptable to this problem.

1% packet loss is way too much. 5% is enormous. I'm afraid that's where the slowdown is coming from.

Gee Andy... wanna trade connections :-)
I just unhooked everything; let it set; and hooked it all back up in the order my dlink router recommends; then ran another test. At first glance it says:
2006-03-02 11:14:53Line quality0% loss latency 38.7ms View but when I click view it shows results of 0%; 19%; 10%; 0% loss so I'm not sure what it means. Can someone take a look and advice me as to what I need to tell the isp guys to look for (sometimes they send boys out that don't have a clue
Link to results is: http://www.dslreports.com/quality/nil/1998139
I dont reply back right away is because my connection is still coming off & on... lost connection 3 times while typeing this - uuugghhhh. Connection itself seemed fine up till 3 days ago so I suspect theres more than one problem... or one problem just finnally got real bad.
Thanks,
