High School Play

Tonight I managed to see and shoot Thousand Oaks HS play "The Mistery of Edwin Drood".

I shot all of it with my Canon 20D and borrowed 100-400L, at ISO 1600 and 800. I wish I had 70-200L f/2.8: to my dismay, about 30% came out blurry.

However, since I took about 230 shots, I still came out with a few decent ones.:):

Great shots Nik. I can barely see any noise at all in these. I think you did a great job with the 100-400.

Most of the pictures with noticeable noise also turned out to be blurred, hence theny didn't make the cut...
I found that ISO 1600 can be pretty good if you have enough light. And of course, IS helped: a lot of shot were taken at full tele, and despite of all being handheld, outcome factor was pretty decent, I think..

These are some seriously nice photosthumb.gif. I especially like
    • the expressions captured in #3 and #4. Would really like to know more about the production to know more about why the guy in #4 is posed the way he is (but not enough to get a copy of the play and figure it out
    • The detail, resolution, and lack of appearant noise in #8
    • Would really like to know what was going though the mind of the young lady on the right in #10 - it's almost what I would expect to see if there was someone behind her doing something that should not ought to be done.
Very nice indeed. I started to look at the rest of them before I finished this and almost forgot about posing this reply. Nice work:):

Thank you very much for your feedback!
I wish I could tell you more about ##3 and 4, but ne_nau.gif It's Dickens, so it's kinda twisted. #10 is easy, however: nothing's going on, she's just "feeling naughty":):

I think the lack of "apparent noise" shall be attributed to the following reasons:
    1) Canon rocks!:-) Even ISO 1600 is OK if you have enough light (which luckily was almost the case. Still makes me crave for /f2.8 or better)
    2) Shooting RAW and applying color noise reduction aloows for a kwik-n-ez fix.
