Just thought I'd post this as a newb D200 user altho I guess anyone with a D200 would be a newb at this point... :) Anyways, I haven't had much opportunity to do anything but sports lately with the D200. However, I thought this was interesting. This little guy landed on my window today. About 3 inches long. Not an exciting shot by any stretch but I thought it was interesting to see the detail captured especially considering the size and how fast they twitch. Slightly cropped and NC usm of 30, 5, 2 if I recall...
200mm, ISO140, 1/250, F2...

100% crop of the eye...about the size of a pea...you can see the reflection of the window panes.

I think it is a good shot with good detail. The crop of the head got grainy. I have been playing with a community version of Noiseware and look what it does.

Nice! I hadn't run it thru Noise Ninja or anything. I'm no bird PP guru either. :) BTW...if anyone wants the NEF to play with I'm happy to send it along. I'm sure someone can do a better job than I did with it in NC/CS2/etc. I literally spent 2 minutes. Mostly I was impressed with the detail it picked up since these birds are SO small...

Nice capture. Very sharp. CS2 has excellent noise reduction capabilities, especially if you do noise reduction on separate channels either in either RGB or preferably LAB mode. Selective sharpening can also help decrease the effects sharpening has on background noise.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks...I actually dumped a D70 and used D2X for the D200 and better glass. I loved the D2X but I figured I'd sell why I could get something for it and put it towards the 200/2 lens. Man that thing is SO sharp.

I played with the above pic in NC some more tonite and I'm really blown away as to how much sharpening and nr the D200 NEF's can take.
