Looking at this setup from B&H.http://http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=353322&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

It will be holding a 70-200 2.8 w/o IS, and maybe a teleconvertor down the road.

Would it be worth getting this extra plate to leave on the ring?

I'm confused :scratch

Interesting that the tripod is only rated for 11lbs but the head for 17lbs. I'd want to get a feel for this tripod, whether or not it's flimsy. And I'd want to get a feel for the head, see how smooth and controllable it is.

I don't like those plates. I've used plates like them, they're not nearly as elegant and unobtrusive as the RRS plates. I have no idea if RRS makes plates that fit that head, though. ne_nau.gif

To answer your last question, yes, I would get a separate plate for your 70-200 lens ring. It's worth it so you don't have to screw around adding a plate every time you want to tripod mount the lens.
    Sid.

I have this same tripod but without the quick lever leg locks
Good starter tripod but heavy abt 7lbs and gets very cold in the winter

I used this for years still use it but now just in the "studio"
I upgraded to a Gitzo much better tripod abt 4.5lbs see this thread

One thing I finally figured out is buy the best tripod you can afford it will last you thru many cameras
Don't go cheapo if you can help it :D

As far as ballheads look at Really Right Stuff...I know there expensive but goodne_nau.gif

Almost forgot same goes here for the plates get an extra one and leave it on the 70-200 ring

    What USAIR said. thumb.gif

My Bogen pro model from 197_(something) is still as rock solid as the day I bought it. Too heavy these days for hiking, but if I live another 30 years (doubtful), then somebody is going to enjoy that tripod after they buy it at our estate sale run by the surviving members of the family.

Although I would like the Explorer, it's just not in the budget right now and has been mentioned in other threads, I found the legs easier to open with the Bogen 055Pro.

The head, I have changed over to this one.

Ordering this week.....along with a few other "goodies", "WHITE" goodies...:D
