The Sierras

My partner and I were out shooting birds in the Valley. When I looked up, I saw this. The clouds amaze me. I believe the large cloud is a lenticular cloud, or maybe the beginning of one. A few moments after I shot this, the cloud split up, one cloud sitting atop another.

300d (an oldie but a goodie) 28-135IS and polarizer. I rarely use the 300d anymore, which is a shame. It still takes nice pictures, but the 20d's have spoiled me

    OOOHhhh that cloud looks like the invading ships from Independence Day- way cool. I'm jealous - think I'll head to Cali soon for some Sierras of my own naughty.gif

    You won't see these clouds on the CA side. They're created by temperature gradients and winds affected by the Sierras, ie; the Nevada side.

    I have seen clouds like this in the Mono Lake region, but never on the CA side of the Sierras. Your mileage may vary..

    Come visit Nevada. Prostitution, gambling and alcohol all flow freely, and that's just in the convenience store down the roadmwink.gif
