Here are a couple or five shots from a trip I took to Chamonix. I took not one, but TWO Gondola's to get to the platform that I took these shots from (11,526 feet in the air!) it was so cold my face hurt! I can't explain how amazing it was. These shots can't communicate the awe inspiring majesty of the view from that platform. It was a spiritual experience. I was shooting like a man possessed, this post represents about 0.5% of the shots I took, I'll try to post more as time permits...

    clap.gif Great stuff!

That first shot gives me vertigo.

Now imagine climbing Mount Everest, more than 15,000 feet higher!

Nice, very nice. When I was a younger lad, I spent two winters in Chamonix - and I recall the hairy gondola ride up to the Aguille du Midi, the last leg of that ride is like being in an open-air elevator!! Thanks for the memories thumb.gif

Thanks Wax, Here's another one that made me feel a little woozy hanging over the rail to get the shot...

Closer to home, the gondolas at Squaw Valley or Palm Springs give you a
bit of the vertigo as they climb past the really steep rock faces.

I don't think it compares to this tho. Nice shots!

Thanks for the compliment Ian, yeah, I've heard that the one in Palm Springs spins around while it ascends!

    I like
the ones where you look thru a whispy cloud layer and can see the "bottom" so to speak...that is cool! Reminds me of flying where the cloud tops look like snow! You were lucky to be able to see such a neat site -- and have photos to prove it.

Great stuff, Ian! I really like the last one from the Gondola, too. Yes, the Palm Springs one does spin around, makes it harder to take pictures!!

    More the sound then anything.

Great onomatopoeia! I never realized it, but everybody did stop talking, almost like they were waiting for the other shoe to drop. And don't forget the sharp inhale as the Gondola begins to swing to and fro just after the pylon.
