Saving Raw as JPEG in Photoshop CS

Help! Is it just me or does anyone else have this problem? I'm processing Raw photos from Photoshop and I'm trying to see how I can save that processed photo as a JPEG. When I go to Save As, saving as JPEG isn't one of the optional formats I can save the photo as. I can save as TIFF or PSD or PNG, just not JPEG. Am I supposed to be able to?

I also ask because I'm reading the Camera Raw book by Bruce Fraser and in it he's got this section about saving RAW work as JPEGS. I've followed everything but got stuck at the Save As part.

Is there anybody who can help with this?

Thanks so much,
marygrace

I don't understand Adobe's user interface. Saving files is too dang hard, especially if you have lots of files to save.

Don't do "save as" after you convert the RAW file. Instead, do "save", then choose JPG. Don't ask me why things function this way.

I really, really wish Canon's File Viewer utility wasn't so dang slow. It does many things so much better than CS. Much easier to bounce from RAW file to RAW file, going back to a prior RAW file to change a parameter. And group saving files is so much easier, especially if you want to rename files.

Its because the RAW file is 16 bit and a Jpeg is 8 bit.

Go to Image/mode and change it to 8 bit and jpg will be an option.

    Dang,

I've just been using "Save for Web" to save as a jpg.
