First, thanks for all who put up with my shots--especially those that have been getting rather "soft" lately. I took some shots of an ISO 12233 Digital Still Camera Resolution Chart to see if I could find a way to compensate for what appears to be a focus calibration drift in my Nikon (Coolpix) E5400 camera. This appears to have manifested itself especially as the tendancy of the monitor to NOT show the clarity of the actual shot. That is, though the monitor image may show sharp focus with the shutter button depressed halfway down, the actual shot shows up on the monitor (and computer) as being less than ideally focussed--even when using AF. I haven't found any settings yet that can uniquely account (or compensate) for this behavior.

I had my 47 year-old eyes checked today, complete with retina shots that left me thinking that I was orbiting a neutron star for about 5 minutes. To my surprise, nothing wrong showed up except for what appears to be the normal progression of presbyopia. Now all I have to do is wait TWO WEEKS for my progressive trifocals to come in. Just great, too, because...

...I'll be spending the next five days in Cottonwood, Arizona. Any requests for shots of Jerome (5 miles away), Clarkdale (2 miles), Sycamore Canyon wilderness, SEDONA (18 miles away)???

I'll do the best I can with both the E5400 and the smaller E2500 Nikons. Maybe I'll find that one right setting and come back with some decent shots.

I'll be back in a few days!

Oak Creek Canyon, slide rock in that area?

my dad was in the USAF, stationed at Luke AFB (among others) and I remember we were coming back from a family day at slide rock the day that we 1st landed on the moon and listened to the broadcast on the car radio on the drive home (ok - I'm really dating myself here:):) I don't remember if this is in the area you'll be in, but it would sure bring back memories. (who else remembers exactly where they were the day Armstrong took his 1st big step?)

    tx,
