grey headed flying fox-large colony of them by the river in melbourne-this is a large male -wingspan of a metre.

-not great, out of frame etc but will be back this weekend to nail one-this is the closest i have got to a frame filler with these hard to shoot bats-exposure is difficult as is keeping them in frame-also i am manually focussing.59235683-M.jpg

Wingspan of a metre? Holy :wow

The bats around here are... well, I've never seen one, so they must be small :D

    not strange-different

yes a difficult but interesting subject-friends in Far North
Queensland nursed an injured one back to health and they loved it-said it was friendly like a dog,but smarter-which makes sense because they are ,unlike normal bats, not rodents but primates, related to the lemurs of madagascar and so , therefore as primates , related to humans.

Excellent post, and he must be very difficult to photograph. Thanks for the capture, and the interesting information about bats.
