Took this series the other day just after it had stopped raining. The bug (globular springtail) at the end is 1.8mm long.

Even your water drops are starting to resemble spiders like in #3

Now since your so damn good I want to see a bug reflected in the water droprolleyes1.gif:D

What do you want me to say???? I want to be you when I grow up...
I don't even see bugs like that... How do you find them? Are you crawling over the parking lot to find those little critters?
Love the photographs, love the second one of the droplets on the fence.
The color in the background is attractive, the droplets are sharp, it has it all! Great work!!!clap.gifclap.gif

    Brian,

Truly breathtaking and awesome. I am betting #2 and #3 would make wonderful enlargements.

Thanks for these, I am getting so much inspiration from your work.

    What A Cute Little Guy
Took this series the other day just after it had stopped raining. All shot between 2:1 and 3.4:1. The bug (globular springtail) at the end is 1.8mm long.

    Thanks Eric, :)

Now a bug refracted by a water drop would be a challenge- would have to be a fairly large bug as the water drop acts like a wide angle lens. Will have to try it :)

I just go crawling around my own garden :)

The springtail at the end is about the same size or smaller that a pin head. They are very common but you wouldn't normally notice them unless you are looking for them.

Thanks Skippy- I really like these globular springtails to. Always look like 6 legged alien cows to me- and they do go around in little herds grazing :)
I'm waiting for the spring for them to get into breeding- apparently they run around head butting each other in competition for ther females :)
. I'd be very suprised if you don't have them out there as once you know what you are looking for they seem to be everywhere, but they are very small and like damp places. My favourite spot for them is actually on a water barrel lid- I've now built them a little habitat on it- Just a piece of plastic pipe with some damp water absorbent material over the top of it so it stays damp, but you can find them in damp leaf litter as well.

    Thanks Jeffro,
Obviously I really enjoy my macro lens, I bought a canon f2.8 200L lens with the intention of shooting garden birds during the winter but have hardly used it- just find the macro world too fascinating. :)

    Wow!
I love looking at your macros! Are any of these stacked? How many shots to you take total in order to get these?
Oh, and is that you I see in the water drop in the first one? :D
    Ok. No more 20 questions.
Thank you thank you and keep them coming!!

    Thanks Jaimie, :)
No, none of them stacked although I do sometimes stack water drops to get both the drop and refracted image in focus- guess it depends on the focal length of the drop and where the object being refracted is. I normally do 2 or 3 shots of interesting subjects anyway just to make sure I get one with the correct focus plus I often do stereo pairs or focus stacks as mentioned above.
Must admit not sure if that's me in the first drop- you can certainly see the flash diffuser- If I was standing in bright sun (which I was) I might show up as a reflection but normally most of the image inside the drop is refracted through the drop in my water drop shots.
