Bonnie Modeling on a Perfect Day

the weather was so great today in pennsylvania that i had to shoot, so i called a couple models and was able to get bonnie to shoot with me. i hired my buddy drew to assist me and hold the reflector for $20. we shot for about 2 hours and i got some great stuff. since i wasn't battling the cold or rushing to beat the sunset, it was nice to be able to concentrate.

bonnie was an excellent model, i just let her do her own thing and occaisionally threw some directions at her. we had a great time. she said she can't wait to shoot again.

i just wanted to post something of bonnie real quick to see what you guys think. i don't like that a tree seems to be sprouting from her head in this shot, but i can take that out and otherwise i love this picture. please tell me what you think!

thanks!

Ditto on the tree. But that wind is doing some gorgeous things to her hair. I also really like the attitude that the pose seems to imbue in her.

There is a shadow, or dark spot, below the model's lip. Is this something that could be cleaned up in post processing?

The first & third have fairly sharp nose shadows.
Think the sun is causing it in the 3rd but it may be your flash in the 1st.

#2 is my fav. The trees are a tad distracting but all the flowers on the ground more than make up for it.
Only if she had one of them tucked in her hair. :cool

I also like the mood in #2, but I also like the pose in #3 (nose shadow comment noted).

In the #2 shot, I like how the grain of the hair is picked up, but there is a spikey ray of light on her upper cheek that could be removed in processing. I think that her pose could have been improved some if some of the rest of her body had been included in the image, even just a glimpse of her lower legs or hip. As it is its a nice head shot, but it leaves one wondering if she half buried in the ground. Also, the highlights in her left forearm and blouse are getting kind of washed out. I think this could be improved in processing.

My college teacher would say, "crop these tighter" thumb.gif

wow guys, thanks for the great responses. i'm really loving the advice you've given me! i see that i've still got some work to do. you guys keep the comments coming i'll keep posting more of bonnie.

i haven't touched up the eyes in any of these shots yet, just basically fixed color and then sharpened. i'm gonna go back and give the eyes some real pop soon.

#4 is really nicethumb.gif Did a great job with the background (DOF is nice). When you go back and do a serious job processing this image, in addition to the blown out shirt, I think her face is more than just a tad bright. But, great image.

I like all the red-shirted ones better - they make her skin tone more pleasing to my eyes.

Don't touch her eyes. The reflector gives a nice catchlight as it is, especially in the last photo you posted.

the blown background in your "perfect" shot actually works there. I don't mind it. You might even blow it some more for a very artsy kind of feel.
