Do you ever feel bad about a photo you sold?

I'm a little embarassed to have photos this bad on my smugmug, but I was having a bad day and just batch processed and uploaded everything after the game. Today I checked my site and saw that somebody bought some of the photos. When I saw which ones were bought, I felt bad for the person

Why on earth would the buyer buy these? I mean sure, her kid is in the pictures, but the first one is way out of focus and the second one is too far out and the kid's back. What's the motivation behind buying these?

The only motivation is that her kid is in the picture...that's it! You should know that most people don't actually look at the quality of a photograph, just what's in it...sometime's not even that. I have been embarassed before at what I had to sell, but it's still better than they can do themselves so they don't seem to notice.

Bottom line...you haven't decieved anyone, so there is nothing to feel bad about!

That's a good point. The fact that people are buying that stuff makes me think maybe I should stop my recent trend in being more selective in what I put up. Granted I would probably make more money if I didn't start being selective but at the same time a smugmug gallery can become something of a portfolio. Hmmm, should I do what has a higher money making potential, or should I do what other photographers have told me to do?

I would be selective about what you post, as it still is your portfolio. However, if you only got a couple shots of a kid (like what you posted), then I would go ahead and put them up, unless they are completely unusable. You just need to find your happy medium.

I too have noticed that people often overlook the technical quality of an image, if they're really interested in the subject. When it happens, it makes me feel foolish for agonizing over the details. But it will never stop me!
