Some jellyfish. I took my sister and family to Mote Marine Aquarium yesterday. Inbetween playing tour guide...I snapped a few pics. These were all taken at ISO 1600 with 50mm macro 1/125 at f/2.5. (hand held) They could probably use some NR. Had a difficult time focusing in the dark. :wxwax

Thanks for looking.

Mike - nice series of jellyfish. They can be challenging.

I tried shooting some jelly fish at the Aquarium in Chattanoga but it was very difficult as the room was totally black without light, except for a very small tungsten bulb directly above the tank.

ISO 1600 f3.2 1/30th -1.33 EC and the jelly fish were in constant motion. Yours look much better.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Many thanks George & Antonio. These jellyfish (and fish) are suppose to be indigenous to Florida. (they sneak some imports in once in a while) I've not heard this variety of jellyfish referred to "the portuguese". Around here this refers to the much larger and more dangerous "Man 'o' War" (see below). headscratch.gif

Thanks Jim. I like your shot of the "jelly". That is a much more interesting animal than the ones I've shot. They are tricky to shoot. This tank very dark and dirty (not to mention very busy due to spring break. Lots of kids getting in the way. Had to shoot up against the glass, limiting my comp.) The tank was set up with fast circulation so these things were moving pretty good. I was surprised the 1/125th stopped the action. Not the ideal shooting conditions, but I still like shooting aquariums.

Here are a couple other interesting creatures from the aquarium. I think these are called "Snow Bird Hams" (my goofy nephews Peyton & Bailey).

There were many of these little snow birds running wild at the aquarium. Made use of a tripod (not that I took one) impossible. Standing back away from the tanks to get more distance was not an option either. People would walk in front of you or plane out stand in your way. No "photog etiquette".

I love that one with your nephews!

I am a bit burned out on most "cute kid" shots, don't tell anyone, but that is a good one, there. They ham well!

Thanks Dallas. I know it's tough for us geezers to hold a camera.....but the aquarium with all the people was not tripod friendly.

Thanks Jeff, Steve & Nick. I appreicate you taking a look and commenting.

I guess they are a bit different...seeing that they don't have feathers. rolleyes1.gif

Maybe the noise is just in my eyes or brain, Steve? ne_nau.gifheadscratch.gifrolleyes1.gif I guess for ISO 1600 they are not too bad. Glad I didn't try that with a Nikon. :uhoh blbl.gif :lol4 :hide

If you like aquarium shots, Nick, there are more in my Pbase gallery.

Thanks Ginger & Harry. Much appreciated.

I wish I could take credit for the purdy colors, but the aquarium puts funky lights in their tanks to enhance the (not so realistic) colors of the fish & inverts. The main room is very dark and most of the tanks are lighted rather poorly. They use a lot of actinic (blue shifted) lights to make the animals glow. It's pretty cool...but not real authentic.

I figure some of the images also could use a bit less saturation. I just used the "auto select" on the parameters. I'd have little clue where to begin with the color correction. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/umph.gif" border="0" alt="" > Here is a prime example of the "funky lighting". This is a common permit. They are very silvery and shiny. They have picked up nice coloration from the reflections in the room and the actinic lights in the tank.

The nephews are totally "big hams", Ginger. They are a riot and we all get along pretty well. They keep me on my toes and laughing. They enjoyed the fish. The little smarty pants knows all his fish ..and was correcting the other "goofy kids" that were calling the clown fish (amphiprion ocellaris) "Nemo". The horor of it all. He was really bothered by their lack of knowledge. No room for slackers with Pey. They should "know their fish" <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/rolleyes1.gif" border="0" alt="" > I wonder where he learned all the fish names <hides under desk>

There you will find a photo of the Portuguese man-of-war (genus Physalia) similar to the one you photographed. I dare say it is the same animal.
