Looking for a different kind of Whipping Post

I'm looking for a forum where restoration/enhancement folks can hang out their wares and get some constructive criticism. Andy didn't seem to think that the Whipping post was the proper forum and from what I saw I guess they have a different agenda. I always loved the darkroom more than actually taking pictures. After a hiatis of just a couple decades I am trying to catch up with the rest of the real (digital) world.

Did I over-look something or is there no such place here?

I'll just stick my neck out and offer up a target. Since you can only upload one, I decided the After would be more interesting.

Well, if there was enough interest, I'm sure we would find a home for it. From what i can tell, the software side of photography gets less action here than does the camera side. Makes sense, i guess.

I like the piccie you posted. A really nice, nostalgic feel.

In a lot of ways its still the same discusson with a few exceptions. Of course there's the How-To part, which I'm not much interested in. What ever makes a great picture, and why this isn't, is still the fundamental topic. We just can't go back and retake the shot and what ever quality the original is, is what you've got.

It is nostalgic. Don't know if you noticed but it was taken about 1936 by my grandfather of his father using (lord knows) an inexpensive camera. It was the depression and he didn't work through it. However, it is a huge 116 format neg that was in very good condition. This one grabbed me as being "publishable" for lack of a better word.

Yes, I think you've overlooked the PS forum itself - you can post here as much as you like, and seek, solicit, demand straight-up, honest feedback, a la the WP - and you'll get it!

It's in terrific condition. Plus, I love the car! Did you have to do a lot of work to the image?

Yea. I spent more time than a pro would. Everytime I learned something new I'd go back and rework a bunch of stuff that I had "finish". I reworked this last week when I learned about "extract" which let me put the sky in. Well, that's learnin'.

The sky is new. I worked a lot on polishing the car, adding some glint, and especially adding the reflection on the windows. The subjects were cut-out and separately curved. Two toners. This is one of my favorite outcomes.

Actually, my G-grandfather WON it by being the Nth person to buy a ticket at the movie theater DURING the depression. He couldn't drive and never learned how, so family members shuffled him around. He always rode in the backseat because it was too scary up front. To this day, he is the only person in my family that ever won anything.

Actually, that's not the original. That's before the sky and toners. But.. In my opinon it was a fundamentally sound shot with excellent exposure range for equipment of that day. It is cropped as a shot it. He never had an enlarger so he just made contact prints.
